Flower Tattoo Ideas

Sharing is caring!

Whether you’re getting inked for the first time or looking to add to an already extensive collection, you’re likely searching for a little inspo. And as far as we’re concerned, you can’t go wrong with a flower tattoo. Roses or orchids, wildflowers or botanical blossoms, we love them all.

After doing lots of internet sleuthing, we whipped up a list of 45 of our favorite flower tattoos—and we even tapped two tattoo artists (Sag Shrestha and Victoria “Tori” Asante) for their expert input. Keep scrolling for the inspo.

Fine Line Flower Tattoo

This fine-line piece is classic, clean, and would look beautiful placed anywhere on the body. “I would recommend asking for a simple rose and stem design, fine line-work, and the preferred size” to emulate this design, advises Asante.

Entwined Flower Tattoo

We’re big fans of minimalist artwork, and if you are, too, this depiction of two flowers will be right up your alley. It almost looks like they’re growing into one another, which could be a great symbol of love.

Lily Tattoo

Lilies have many meanings, including rebirth and compassion, making them a symbolic choice for a tattoo. We love the fine-line technique in this art.

Mini Rose Tattoo

There’s something so dainty and feminine about a baby-sized rose tattoo. While this one is small it features plenty of detail, making for one gorgeous piece of ink.

Flower Bundle Tattoo

While we’re total suckers for receiving fresh flowers, this flower bundle tattoo might be even better. Tell your tattoo artist the flowers you’d like to be depicted and let them work their magic.

Garden Flower Tattoo

How stunning is this representation of a garden flower? If you end up using this photo as inspo, make sure to tell your artist you want lots of shading and fine strokes.

Shaded Rose Tattoo

“For something like this, I’d ask if the artist is comfortable doing fine line micro realism tattoos,” shares Shrestha. “Something like this might need a touch-up depending on how it heals.”

Tiny Flower Finger Tattoo

@joannamroman / Instagram

Finger tattoos aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, and if you’re looking for art to include on one of your digits, we think this tiny flower is the way to go. We like the placement on the side of the finger instead of the top.

Micro Flower Tattoo

@mnsantanatattoo / Instagram

Micro tattoos are all the rage thanks to celebrities like Hailey Bieber, and if you’re in the market for one, look to this pic as inspo. When getting a micro tattoo, make sure you’re clear with your artist about your needs and expectations; if you go too small you can lose some detail.

Ear Flower Tattoo

@joannamroman / Instagram

“Minimalist tattoos are very popular now,” Shrestha tells Byrdie. If you’re contemplating getting one, “you need to consider a fine line artist and remember how tattoos age… [it] might not be as dainty or fine line 10 years later.”

Artsy Flower Tattoo

From the delicate hand holding a bundle of blooms to the fun placement on the upper thigh, there’s nothing about this tattoo we don’t like.

Forearm Flower Tattoo

While this tattoo would look fab on any placement, we think it suits the forearm perfectly. From the brilliant shading to the lifelike quality, you’ll want to bookmark this one to show your artist.

Finger Flower Tattoo

Placed delicately on the side of the middle finger, the thin strokes give this piece a stark quality we can’t help but love.

Cute Flower Tattoo

This cute mini tat has a youthful quality we’re obsessed with. Tell your artist you’re looking for the focal point to be the flowers, with smaller blossoms on top.

Water Lily Flower Tattoo

Water lily tattoos are next level, and this might be the most gorgeous depiction we’ve seen yet. The placement is sexy and we adore how much attention to detail the artist executed.

Script Flower Tattoo

@mnsantanatattoo / Instagram

If you have the name of someone you’d like to incorporate into your flower tattoo, or even just a favorite word, this is a great tattoo to take inspo from. “I’d look for an artist who does fine line work, especially if you’re thinking of adding script on your tattoo,” shares Shrestha.

Flower Bouquet Tattoo

When showing your artist a photo as inspiration, make sure to point out the things you love, whether that’s the placement, the flower type, or even the shading.

Hand Flower Tattoo

Here’s another fun flower hand tattoo, this time tilted on its side. You’ll be getting compliments left and right with this unique art.

Floral Bouquet Tattoo

To get this sleek bouquet, tell your artist you want “a flower bouquet that’s palm size, fine line, and with minimal shading,” says Asante.

Bluebells Tattoo

Gratitude and ever-lasting love are beautiful sentiments, and if they resonate with you, you might want to get a tattoo of the flower that holds those meanings—the bluebell. This tattoo looks incredible on the forearm, and we love how it’s a simple sketch without too much detail.

Eyes & Flower Tattoo

@blackninked / Instagram

Our jaws hit the floor when we saw this tattoo of a beautiful rose and a pair of eyes. Tell your artist you want the eyes placed behind the flower, so it feels like the plant is being watched or looked over.

Small Florals Tattoo

If you want a flower tattoo with a unique feel, look to this floral ink job as inspo. From the varying flower types to the small design, we think this would look stunning placed anywhere on the body.

Mini Flower Tattoo

This diminutive piece would make a great conversation starter peeking out of your summer looks. Just make sure to keep sunscreen on hand—shoulder tattoos are among the most susceptible to fading.

From the feather touch to the dainty design, the fine line work in this minimalist piece is absolutely impeccable

Wildflower Tattoo

Wildflowers make for a beautiful standalone tattoo, but a bumble bee adds a playful touch.

Floral Botanical Tattoo

Into more of an artsy vibe? We think you’ll enjoy this floral botanical tattoo. If you decide to use this as inspo, tell your tattoo artist exactly what you like about it—the color, placement, overlapping lines, etc.

Pretty Flower Tattoo

@humblebeetattoo / Instagram

With three blooming flowers and expert shading, this large-and-in-charge piece isn’t for the faint of heart.

Trendy Flower Tattoo

@teddyxtattoo / Instagram

This trendy flower tattoo is the absolute definition of cool. We love how it cascades down the arms, and the use of black and lilac ink is *chef’s kiss.*

Wrist Flower Tattoo

@humblebeetattoo / Instagram

If you love arm candy as much as we do, why not get a tattoo to pair with your bracelets? This ink wraps around the wrist and features soft shading.

Orchid Flower Tattoo

@mnsantanatattoo / Instagram

To bring this overall vibe to your tattoo, “I would recommend describing the piece you’re wanting as fine line, possibly specific flowers (if the client wants certain ones, it’s great to include that prior), and size (top of the forearm, elbow crease to about right above the wrist),” shares Asante. And make sure they know you want “something similar yet not identical.”

Flower Vase Tattoo

@humblebeetattoo / Instagram

How darling is this flower vase tattoo? Be sure to tell your tattoo artist you want it facing upside down on your forearm, with some blooms and stems peeking through the vase.

Ankle Flower Tattoo

@joannamroman / Instagram

Ankle tattoos will always be a yes in our book, and you can’t go wrong with one like this. Opt for a dainty rose in black ink with minimal shading to get the same effect.

Micro Floral Tattoo

Whether you place it on your forearm, as seen here, or somewhere else like your ribcage or behind an ear, ask your artist to use a thin needle for a comparable look.

Blank Space Flower Tattoo

@humblebeetattoo / Instagram

We think this negative space flower tattoo looks amazing as is, but if we had to guess, the person is using it to start a sleeve. The large flowers cover lots of arm space (and are truly picture-perfect).

Dainty Rose Tattoo

If you’ve been on the fence about getting a dainty flower tattoo, consider this your sign to take the plunge! It’s simple, minimalist, and perfect for anyone looking to add a bit of feminine energy to their ink.
